Leicester City have conceded 22 goals in their first seven Premier League games – you have to go back to the sixties to find a top flight side with such a poor defensive record. Half of those have been let in during their last two fixtures, as the Foxes have squandered maximum points from winning positions away at Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

Being so permeable has understandably led to many suggesting it’s necessary for a change in tack for Brendan Rodgers in how he sets up his defences, with the possibility of a back three being floated in some circles. A lot of the theory that this could be beneficial comes from the romanticising from some City supporters about the centre-half trio in the 2019/20 season of Caglar Soyuncu, Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans.

The reality however is that the scenario is very different now to this time three years ago. The middle-mentioned of those three has forced himself a move, the new captain Evans, has suffered with persistent injury problems and the manager has conceded that Soyuncu has been “no where near the level” to come into the first team fold.
