Rodgers on Leicester’s season-changing game
By Will Kennedy
After an atrocious start to Leicester City’s season, the Foxes finally enjoyed their first league win since May as they thrashed local rivals Nottingham Forest 4-0 on Monday. Two goals from an outstanding James Maddison and top-class finishes from Harvey Barnes and Patson Daka saw a revitalised City dust off their recent poor form.
Whilst the joy and the relief of the fans was palpable, one man in paticular was thrilled with the result. Having recently endured 5-2 and 6-2 spankings by Brighton and Spurs, Brendan Rodgers was delighted with the way his side played.
Monday was do or die for the Northern Irishman; with no wins in 7 games and 20th in the Premier League table, losing at home to Forest would have been the final straw for fans and Rodgers’ position at the club would be left untenable. Khun Top, the LCFC chairman, was also in attendance, as pressure mounted upon the manager.
In the face of all that, Rodgers saw his side leapfrog their opponents to 19th in one of the most complete performances of the entire calendar year so far. From the attack to the defence, each player did their job in securing three points and a first league clean sheet since April (a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa).
