According to a report, Leicester City star James Maddison is in Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate’s initial England 55-man squad. But is it likely the playmaker will make the final cut after being disregarded for so long under the manager’s reign?

Earlier this week, Foxes of Leicester wrote about Maddison deserving a spot in the England squad, if not the XI. He has been easily performing at the expected levels, if not smashing it. The former Norwich City man should have been back in the national team setup for at least a year.

There were plenty of suitable friendly fixtures within that time frame for him to tried in. Alas, it wasn’t to be. Most people are of the opinion that the Eng’ head coach doesn’t appreciate something about Maddison’s personality, or persona, more accurately. That may well be, but the state of the side is of far greater importance than Southgate’s admiration, or lack thereof.

Nonetheless, the Fox is apparently on the initial 55-man roster, as per Daily Mail. The selection is preliminary and is almost twice the size as the eventual 26-player list. Therefore FoL believe this to be an empty gesture with the midfielder unlikely to be on the plane, rather unfairly.

Next up for Leicester City

The east Midlands club visit Everton on Merseyside following the unsurprising loss to Manchester City at the weekend. A defeat which was surprisingly spirited from the Foxes, along with being a more organised and eurhythmic display. Losing has never been so prosperous.

As for the Toffees, they have technically done better than their Leicestershire opponents this season. Frank Lampard’s men current sit 12th in the Premier League table, as opposed to LCFC’s general relegation zone-warranted form in 2022/23.

However, prosperity seems to be back in Leicester’s corner. Dare I think that – let alone type it! I don’t know why but I am confident that Leicester will get something from the Goodison Park fixture. This time in point form. Subsequent to three consecutive losses to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United respectively, Everton beat Crystal Palace 3-0 but then drew with Fulham.
