Leicester’s warm weather training camp for players not at World Cup
Foxes of Leicester detail and discuss Leicester City’s warm weather training camp plans for squad members not involved in the World Cup. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers offers insight into footballers’ international tournament aspirations.
Credit when credit is due, Rodgers has seemingly turned things around at Leicester. Maybe new set-piece coach Lars Knudsen deserves some praise as well, the squad certainly does.
I’m not afraid to admit that I wanted the former Liverpool boss relieved of duty, and I was seemingly in the majority of Blue Army opinion there. Everything, and I mean everything, was going wrong at Leicester, from top to bottom, on the pitch and away from it. The general feeling around the fanbase is far more satisfied or optimistic now.
At the time of writing, a weakened but still very experienced LCFC side is beating Newport County 1-0 in the League Cup, or Carabao Cup. A stunning finish from defender James Justin breaking the deadlock. The Welsh club currently reside in Football League Two.
Following that outing, the east Midlands outfit only have one match remaining before the World Cup hiatus. That fixture is against West Ham United, as the Hammers welcome Leicester to London Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.
During the break, many Foxes shall remain behind because they aren’t involved in their national setup. We now know what those players will be doing in that time. According to Leicester Mercury, the roster will travel to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for a warm weather training camp. This will occur subsequent to a brief rest.
Brendan Rodgers asked about England hopes of Leicester City’s James Maddison, James Justin and Harvey Barnes
Enquiries have been aimed at Rodgers concerning England’s World Cup selection for weeks now, if not months. Maddison was the ever-present subject of questions to the Northern Irishman; the Englishman should clearly be an ever-present in the Three Lions setup. Barnes and Justin are often mentioned, too.
When prompted, the LCFC gaffer said the trio must initially do what they can for Leicester. Consequently, he believes, Gareth Southgate might perhaps take note and involve them in his plans. Furthermore, Rodgers encouraged his athletes to maintain fitness and showcase the utmost of their abilities.
