Leicester City 3-0 Newport County: 3 things we noticed
Leicester City defeated Football League Two club Newport County 3-0 in the League Cup on Tuesday night. What three things did FoL notice during the game?
A majestic finish from James Justin was later spoiled by an injury to the former Luton Town man. Justin was eventually stretchered off and is awaiting a scan; realistic England World Cup hopes hang in the balance. The signs are that he probably won’t be on the plane to Qatar.
Foxes of Leicester wish a speedy player an even swifter recovery. Let’s hope the dream isn’t over as Gareth Southgate is a big fan of Justin’s. The defender was doing more attacking because he was on the right hand side in Timothy Castagne’s absence. When Justin is on the left he has less freedom due to Harvey Barnes’ forward-thinking play.
The other two goals were expertly taken by Jamie Vardy. The legendary and now veteran striker was hungry versus Newport, and devoured his rewards.
Yes he’s lost a bit of pace, and at age-35 his stamina is not what it once was. Yet the ex-England international’s intensity, quality, presence and finishing ability still shine through. His first goal was an impeccable header via a cross from another Fox now on the periphery of proceedings, Marc Albrighton. The way the No.9 rounded the opposition goalkeeper for his second was delectable.
