Leicester City 3-0 Newport County: 3 things we noticed
There is a slight depth to the Leicester City squad
Facing reality is best: the brace from Vardy sadly won’t mean his time will increase in the Premier League. Ultimately he is still LCFC’s main man, however, he is now playing more of a bit part role. Think Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United, but probably in 2021/22.
Patson Daka has been selected as first-choice in a couple of important EPL fixtures, therefore the Zambian is on the precipice of taking over. Kelechi Iheanacho isn’t a target man so won’t have much of a look in under Brendan Rodgers, with respect to crucial starting lineups. As previously mentioned, it is a shame to see Vardy’s minutes managed more closely, but that strategy is certainly best for the club.
I thought Luke Thomas was as combative as ever, even as a slighter fullback. I would like to see his attacking improve, and that is not a criticism of his capabilities – he is competent. Thomas just needs to be more confident and show what he can create for the good of the team. Athletes like Dennis Praet are really adding something to the mix; in Praet’s case, trust from the Northern Irishman was a long time coming.
