Every Leicester player at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
After a great turnaround in form, Leicester City sits 13th in the Premier League. The Foxes fanbase can now look forward to seeing their players shine at the World Cup. Brendan Rodgers’ outfit had seven players chosen to represent their respective countries..
Firstly, and most significant, James Maddison got his well-deserved call-up to the England squad. The last time Maddison got called up was in 2019. He could not have made a comeback at a better time. It is unknown how much playing time he will get at present; when he gets his chance, he’ll prove how special he is. ‘Madders’ is too creative and technically gifted not to have an impact on the tournament.
The Belgium National team has Foxes all across it, with three players on the squad. It should be four with Dennis Praet, but that is a conversation for another time. Youri Tielemans, Wout Faes and Timothy Castagne all got call-ups to Roberto Martinez’s squad. The Red Devils are the dark horse of the tournament: a squad with the caliber of players like Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois will always compete at a high level. Tielemans will be a brilliant counterpart to De Bruyne, while Faes will be that core defender they have lacked for the last decade.
Danny Ward may be Wales’ goalkeeper for the World Cup, although he has been a regular understudy. After a particularly rocky start to the season, Ward has been brilliant the past month. He has helped the East Midland’s team keep six clean sheets this season. That is tied for second behind Arsenal and Newcastle United’s seven clean sheets. Hopefully, Ward can continue his great form into the international competition.
Daniel Amartey will be a starting centre back for Ghana. Amartey will be tested every game in the group stage as he gets to go against Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez.
Nampalys Mendy will be playing for a very underrated Senegal side. If Senegal plays well and Mendy contributes to that success, he will almost certainly earn more LCFC playing time when he comes back from the world cup.
