After a dry summer in the transfer market, Leicester City fans could have been forgiven for thinking that the winter would be equally as stale. The only two signings Brendan Rodgers was able to make was veteran goalkeeper Alex Smithies and Wesley Fofana’s outstanding replacement, Wout Faes.

Fans, however, will be relieved to know that Rodgers and the board are planning to make some important pieces of business over January. In his recent reader Q&A, LeicestershireLive’s Jordan Blackwell revealed his understanding of the club’s winter plans.

A new left-back

From being a strength to a real problem position, Leicester City are desperately short of full-backs. After rediscovering his old form, James Justin suffered a cruel season-ending injury in the Carabao Cup win over Newport. After scoring a sensational opener, Justin later went down with a ruptured Achilles, an injury that will likely see him miss the rest of the campaign.

Justin isn’t the only injury concern however; Ricardo Pereira is still out with the ruptured Achilles he suffered in pre-season with the defender set to return to training in January. His arrival won’t be immediate though, considering his recent awful run with his fitness, City will be desperate to manage his recovery.

Even after he returns, the Portuguese international has had such a disrupted two seasons that he will be left searching for his explosive form. Fans, and Rodgers, will need a large amount of patience in order to get the best out of Ricardo.
