World Cup 2022: The Leicester City stars featuring in the last 16
By Ethan Henson
James Maddison
With both City stars facing off against each other, that means there can only be one player from the King Power club who reaches the last 8 of the tournament. James Maddison is yet to feature in the tournament, after injury ruled him out of England’s first two encounters against Iran and the United States.
City’s No. 10 did however make the bench for the convincing win against neighbours Wales in the final game, but despite an extra substitution being available due to a concussion replacement for their opponents, Southgate elected not to bring the one-capped man into the fold. Maddison is unlikely to feature from the start against Senegal due to the England manager’s loyalty to certain players, and it’s also improbable that a winning formula like that brushed Wales aside would be changed.
Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden were brought in from the start on Tuesday evening, with both padding out the scoresheet as England cruised to a routine victory. There’s always the chance, however, that against an obdurate and resillient Senegal, Maddison could be turned to as the key to pick the lock late on in the game.
