Can Leicester maintain exceptional turnaround in form as EPL resumes?

Amidst all of the hysteria around the World Cup, with unfancied nations making it to the last four and the fall out of from England’s earlier-than-planned exit, it’s easy to forget that Leicester City are back in competitive action in just four days’ time. That’s the reality, however, and with all of his men now eliminated from the competition, Brendan Rodgers will have his full attention on Tuesday’s trip to Milton Keynes.
Navigate that potential banana-skin successfully, and the East Midlands side could be set for a fruitful campaign, a projection brighter than even the most ardent Foxes supporter could’ve held after the last international break. From the ignominy of sitting rock bottom of the division with 22 goals conceded in seven games, to being in the last 8 of the Carabao Cup and aiming for a top half finish, that would constitute quite some turnaround.
In many ways, the World Cup break came at precisely the wrong time for City, given their pair of away wins with clean sheets immediately before, with key players at the peak of their form. As the Premier League returns with a Boxing Day clash against Newcastle United, the fear will be that all of the momentum gained has stalled, especially due to circumstances around the World Cup.
