In their Premier League opponents, there is a side suffering from a similar issue. Newcastle were riding the crest of a wave before the domestic hiatus, with Miguel Almiron and others lighting up our screens every week. While the Magpies sit third, that wave has temporarily been halted, and the Foxes will sense an opportunity.

A trip to Liverpool follows, with winnable games thereafter against Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Aston Villa. City are four points above the drop, and five points away from a European berth – if they are to harbour any hopes of truly reviving their season, then the form they showed as the season’s first part drew to a close must be replicated.

The Foxes have a squad stacked with talent, and a manager who has shown he is capable of eking every last ounce out of his players, it’s in the next run of fixtures that this is crucially important. Kolo Toure has departed to take the reins at Wigan Athletic, his first venture into management, but the arrival of Lars Knudsen as set piece coach appears to have been the key to unlocking the true potential in the team – it remains to be seen in which direction this side will turn.
