Leicester City are once again linked to former Chelsea man Jeremie Boga. Here is the update as well as why the wingman could be a great addition.

I should start by premising this on the fact the King Power club should have signed another winger and kept them many seasons ago by now. After all, this is the same side which had Cengiz Under and Ademola Lookman on reported loan to buy deals.

Nevertheless, transfer journalist Ekrem Konur has reported that Leicester are once again in for Boga. Furthermore, this link is a loan to buy, slated for this upcoming winter window.

Why Leicester City should pounce

The Foxes need reinforcements in the coming window. With the possible outgoings incoming over the next and future transfer windows, Brendan Rodgers will be looking to fill in gaps as well as strengthen depth or provide options.

Midfielders, defenders, and wingers have been linked, while Caglar Soyuncu has been speculated as a possible departure. So, there will be room for more players but still not much room to play with unless a big wage player is moved on.

As such, Leicester should pounce mostly because the Ivorian international would not be that expensive at the moment. The player is currently not in the first team and has not achieved prolific figures for a couple of seasons consecutively. As such, the talent cannot command a high wage, and with it being loan to buy, it provides more room for other signings.

I will concede this much however: the 25-year-old is neither what we desparately need or particularly impressive. According to FB Ref, he is in the 3rd percentile for non-penalty goals (an atrocious figure); yet, he does lay claim to some of the best creative figures.

99th for dribbling, 95th for shot-creating actions, 88th for progressive passing, and 89th for touches in the penalty box. Boga is a player who creates for others more than he creates for himself: selfless and terrifying for defenders.

This is the role currently taken by James Maddison on the right of Rodgers’ attack. The Foxes could do with one who can play seamlessly on the left in the event of injuries. Possibly the talent could be used to play along with ‘Madders’ to have a creative field day against more compact defensive sides.

Leicester City must pounce on a loan to buy so they can get the job done in other key transfer areas while still strengthening the depth of creative talent. Creativity is often the thing Rodgers’ team lacks most against ‘weaker’ sides.
