There’s still a chance that renowned Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans will sign a new Foxes contract. Hope surprisingly comes in the form of assistant manager Chris Davies.

During the summer, it was more difficult understanding why Leicester wanted to keep Tielemans when he reportedly wouldn’t consider putting pen to paper on a new deal. Not to mention the expiration date on his current contract nearing, meaning only a lower fee will be available in January. Though the Belgian’s performances, spirit and astonishing goals in 2022/23 entirely justified LCFC’s debatable decision.

And, apparently, there is still a chance that Tielemans might perhaps re-sign with the Foxes. If the marvellous midfielder is to stay, surely the Blue Army would be delighted. According to Leicester Mercury, hope remains at Leicester City that the 25-year-old will remain on Filbert Way. In addition, assistant manager Chris Davies said this:

"“We’re enjoying working with him and long may that continue. I hope [he stays]. That will be between Youri, Brendan [Rodgers], and the club, they will discuss it and work it out”."

Luke Thomas speaks ahead of Leicester City versus Newcastle United in Premier League

Thomas is in a special position at Leicester at present: he is only one of two fit senior fullbacks. The other one is Timothy Castagne. While certain versatile Foxes can be deployed on the side of defence, like Daniel Amartey and potentially LCFC Under-21 starlets, specialists are generally required in the testing English top-flight.

Thomas played very well in the Carabao Cup trip to Milton Keynes in the week; City were resounding 3-0 winners versus MK Dons. But the real tests will come against EPL opposition; in the past, the 21-year-old proved himself in the world’s best division, though he has also failed one or two tests.

In the meantime, the Leicester Academy Graduate spoke to BBC Sport Leicester concerning the increased dependency on him. Along with Thomas giving insight into the squad’s thoughts and feelings prior to the big match against Newcastle United at King Power Stadium on Boxing Day. First of all, the leftback said the upcoming period is important to him as there are not many athletes available in his position.

He says that the break from domestic football came at a bad time due to the upturn in the east Midlands team’s form. Following the warm-weather training camp in Dubai, Thomas added that the side is fit and ready to compete.
