Liverpool vs Leicester City: predicted starting XI
By Will Kennedy
Midfield
The most hotly-contested area of the field, I’d expect both Youri Tielemans and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to retain their places in the starting XI, but wouldn’t be surprised if Rodgers wanted a slightly more defensive look to his midfield. If that were to happen, you could see KDH swapped out for Boubakary Soumare, as he plays alongside my predicted starting CDM, Wilfred Ndidi.
The midfield battle will be key to deciding the fate of the game and Ndidi’s raw physicality could be the answer. Soumare struggled at time with his passing against the Magpies, and the centre of the pitch looked more reassured when Ndidi was substituted on for the Frenchman.
Tielemans, whilst he still plays for the Foxes, is a must-have in the matchday squad; even when out of form he can produce match-winning moments. Papy Mendy has been seen in numerous training photos on the Foxes’ socials, but his impact will only be from the bench, he is out of favour and won’t start over Ndidi.
Attack
Whilst Harvey Barnes had a quiet game on Monday, lack of competition in his position means the academy-graduate will start at Anfield. He’ll be hoping for more of an influence in the game as he attacks Trent Alexander-Arnold.
