City had built up some great momentum prior to the tournament, with back to back 2-0 away wins at Everton and West Ham rounding off the campaign’s first phase. That momentum has well and truly been crushed, contributing to three defeats on the spin. Amartey’s challenge in the first minute to give away a penalty against Newcastle was one of rustiness, and his defensive partner, Faes’ confidence appears to have sunk like a rock in the ocean.

Wout Faes is really struggling

One of the main reasons cited for Leicester City’s upturn in form was the arrival of Wout Faes at centre-half in the wake of Wesley Fofana’s controversial antics ahead of his move to Chelsea. The Belgian had produced performances of the highest quality to guide his new side to five clean sheets in seven games.

However, in the last three matches, something has gone wrong at least once on every occasion. Against Newcastle, he was caught in no-man’s-land as Miguel Almiron scythed through to put the Magpies 2-0 up, and last night he was taken out of the game by a diagonal ball, allowing Mitrovic to chest the ball down and finish inside his penalty area.
