Leicester City Spaniard Ayoze Perez’s future is clearer now after reports indicate the club and player have made up their minds. Here is an update.

‘Ayo’ has had a rocky career with the Foxes. Despite a strong initial season, the second season was the first of the drop off campaigns for Brendan Rodgers’ team: mistakes and inconsistency in the second half of the season brought an end to the UEFA Champions League qualification hopes. The Spaniard’s lack of consistency did not help with this.

As such, the head coach has lacked faith in the player to provide more appearances than strictly necessary for the talent. Instead featuring in cups and when injuries elsewhere necessitated his appearance. A sharp and unfortunate decline for a fairly decent player; although the price tag did not suit the outcome.

Leicester City to offload Perez

According to reports, Leicester have decided to sell the player this January window – which still has plenty of time left on it – and get a little bit of money for him instead of losing the talent for nothing in the summer. This is a fair reason for the club: they want a different kind of winger, they need space in the squad, and they need to not lose all the money.

It is also believed that the player himself would like to leave. A return to Spain is preferred by Perez, which we already knew a while back. Of course, he probably hoped to be leaving in better terms than as an outsider to the starting XI.

Obviously the King Power club are not going to recoup the whole £30m investment, however, they should hopefully still get around £8-10m for the AM-RW. To be honest, had Ayo been used more in their natural AM position the value could possibly be much higher, but that is all irrelevant now.

Leicester City have to strengthen in defence, midfield, and right wing. Perez, Daniel Amartey, (unfortunately) Caglar Soyuncu, the likely outgoing Youri Tielemans and Papy Mendy, are all players who could be moved on to make space for better players or more trusted players for Rodgers. Ayo has to go this window.
