This squad’s only wingers are Harvey Barnes and Marc Albrighton. Rodgers is forced to play Daniel Amartey every game because we have no actual good centrebacks outside of Wout Faes. Danny Ward is actually our starting goalkeeper and we have no options for a replacement. This squad is already so weak when it comes to depth which is a major issue when you take into consideration how many injuries we are dealing with already. Taking all of this into consideration, we have to realize a signing of a defensive midfielder would be pointless.

Scott McTominay is not an upgrade over what we have

Each of our defensive midfielders has flaws, like any other football player in the world. However, McTominay does not bring a significant upgrade for these players’ issues. For a defensive midfielder, he struggles defensively which is strange to think about. On numerous occasions, teams have taken advantage of United when they have McTominay as the sole defensive midfielder. This is similar to Soumare.

Offensively, he is good at driving into the final third. However, he can appear to be a ghost in some games and can be nonexistent. He likes to play between the opposing team’s attackers and midfielders. This makes it hard for the defensive line to get him the ball. McTominay is also not accurate when it comes to passing the ball. This season in the Premier League, he has a pass accuracy of 82 per cent. Ndidi is horrendous at passing yet he has a pass accuracy of 87% in the Premier League. McTominay is physically strong but that is not enough when you compare him to the defensive midfielders we have.
