What’s happening with Leicester’s pursuit of Morten Hjulmand
Leicester City are reportedly interested in Morten Hjulmand. Here is the latest on this more recent transfer story and our opinion on it.
The King Power club have completed the signing of Tete from Shakhtar Donetsk with compensation for Lyon. Next up will be some outgoings. However, this is not the end of the January transfer window for the Foxes. Harry Souttar remains an interest.
To update you, I will first briefly let you know the positionality, stylistic preference, and value of this Danish midfielder. Additionally, I will bring you up to date with the transfer story and how far along this is.
Leicester City’s what to know
In terms of positioning, the 23-year-old is a central-midfielder and defensive midfielder. He would be complimentary to Boubakary Soumaré and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and a replacement for the eventually outgoing Youri Tielemans.
To be fair, he is a brilliant DM. According to FB Ref, the Dane is in the – watch out – 99th percentile for interceptions, 93rd for clearances, 86th for assists, 78th for tackling, and 76th for aerial duels won. Those are brilliant statistics for a strong defensive-minded midfielder who also packs a mean pass.
Beyond that, the same source believes a fee around £9m would be enough to pry the player from Serie A side US Leece: they were only recently promoted though and may not wish to lose one of their best talents. Nevertheless, Leicester could do with reinforcements, and this one would reduce the goals conceded.
What’s going on then?
Outside of being linked to Hjulmand, there has been little information of note. What can be said is there will be more signings, and the Dane is one of the more promising links. Tom Collomosse states the King Power club are looking for three more signings post-Tete.
If this is true, then with the breakdown of talks over Azzedine Ounahi, then Hjulmand remains one of the only strong links from journalists for a midfielder, Jack Harrison the only remaining versatile attacker as well. If we assume the Foxes will sign a midfielder, then there remains only a short time for quick progression in talks.
