To the obvious surprise of no one, Leicester City has a lot of problems heading into the summer transfer window. One of those issues is the potential lack of midfielders.

The club has already announced on social media that club legend Youri Tielemans would be leaving on a free contract. Along with that, Nampalys Mendy is still without a contract. It is unknown if he’ll resign or go elsewhere. James Maddison is receiving transfer interest from all of the Premier League and Wilfred Ndidi is receiving interest from the Serie A. With all of these midfielders leaving, the foxes must invest money into the midfield position. However, they may have an option that costs them no money.

Hamza Choudhury is an academy graduate of Leicester; an option was also exercised to extend his contract to June 2024. He was called up from the youth academy in the winter of 2018 and subsequently in and out of the rotation for four years before he was sent out on loan to Watford in 2022. With his loan spell coming to an end, he may see his return into the East Midlands rotation.

I believe this is a comeback that Top Srivaddhanaprabha and the rest of LCFC’s management – whoever that will be – should look into. The 25-year-old was great for the Hornets in the Championship. Whenever he was fit, he started, making 37 appearances throughout all competitions and playing a total of 3,084 minutes.

Choudhury is not someone who is going to come into the squad and give you goals and assists. He is someone who is all over the pitch marking players and winning headers. This would be a great player to pair up with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

There is a catch to this potentially ideal scenario for Leicester City. When the loan deal was made to Watford, there was a deal for a potential loan to buy option. It is unclear if the Hertfordshire outfit is interested in paying the price to purchase the Englishman. To counteract that, Leicester can simply revoke that clause and keep him. It will be an interesting move to keep an eye on this summer. Hopefully the right move is made and we can see him playing at the King Power.
