Dean Smith has talked to Leicester City Football Club about permanently taking over as manager. The Foxes have also placed Pep Guardiola’s staff member at Manchester City under consideration in coach Enzo Maresca.

Smith does not appear to be a number one choice for the Blue Army members, with all due respect to the West Bromwich-born boss. To be completely honest, I am not sure that the recently temporary Foxes gaffer is actually on the supporters’ list of top three or even five potential managers. I don’t think that the former Aston Villa man did a particularly bad job on Filbert Way. There were a few questionable decisions such as Harry Souttar’s omission, successful readmission versus Newcastle United and then unjustifiably disregarding once more.

The LCFC ownership – more precisely, Top Srivaddhanaprabha – are considering Smith as the next permanent head coach. In my opinion we could do worse: he has been successful in the Championship. In fact, the 52-year-old managed to notably navigate the notoriously awkward division for promotion in 2019 via the minefield that is the Playoffs. The Telegraph confirmed that the ex-Norwich City man had held further talks with Leicester since the season ended. In addition to that revelation, it is said that Smith has some support from the Leicestershire club’s board room.

The same reputable outlet also claim that the Citizens’ Maresca is being monitored by the Foxes. Anyone associated with Guardiola seems to be granted walk on water-like status in football without being tested in other capacities.

Leicester Mercury suggest that it is currently unclear with respect to just who will be the east Midlands side’s manager in 2023/24. They essentially say that Graham Potter is a long shot, too; most of us already presumed the onetime Chelsea boss was unrealistic. Maresca is described as hypothetically ‘adventurous’ for the outfit.
