3 Things to know about Leicester transfer target M’Bala Nzola
Leicester City are facing an exodus of talent and this could include their forwards. Here is what you should know about target M’Bala Nzola and our opinion.
With all the players that have already left, it is no wonder supporters feel there are more outgoings to come. One of those positions could be the striker department, where Jamie Vardy’s wages and swift decline in the squad could see the King Power club offload the veteran legend.
Rumours state that the Foxes are monitoring M’Bala Nzola, who is a striker from the Italian Serie A for Spezia. The player is an experienced forward, though arguably very one-dimensional.
Three things Leicester City should know
In this article, we are going to detail the positioning, stylistic preference, and the value offered by Nzola. The Angolan forward is not difficult to discuss, and this is not a good thing in this case.
As per Transfermarkt, the striker is purely a striker. There is no versatility or alternate utilisation for the player. Further to this, it is worth noting that their specific role within that position is the most simplistic and standard of a striker: he waits in an attacking position to get on the end of a chance created by someone else.
That is it. Stylistically too, Nzola is one-dimensional. As per FB Ref, we can see that the Angolan is a progressive striker who tends to receive the ball, turn, and then run past defences. Although not explosive or overly impressive, the player is reliable – something the King Power side have missed in the prior abysmal Premier League campaign.
In the EFL Championship, a straight forward, reliable striker is not a bad thing. Yet, for the price of around £10m, the Foxes are spending quite a bit for a player they are unlikely to wish to take with them much further than a couple seasons. Whereas having a Patson Daka backed up by a promoted George Hirst and one of the most productive Championship strikers in Jerry Yates, would be much more impactful and useful.
Overall then, Nzola is an unexciting, uninspiring, yet reliable transfer target. Supporters could expect goals to be scored, but Enzo Maresca could not utilise the player in multiple ways – as has been done with all three of our current strikers – and nor could we expect to be impressed by anything. It is a lacklustre, invaluable target that should be avoided.
