An eventful summer transfer window is now beginning for Leicester City. The summer started off with rumors. But now, we’re seeing official business being done. One of the best to ever wear a kit for the Foxes, James Maddison, has been sold to Tottenham Hotspur. Plenty of other rumors are also swirling around the club. The fanbase feared that a major clear out could be on the way and we’d be left with no depth. However, that is far from the truth.

Leicester are linked to a wide variety of names. They have officially turned one of those rumors into reality. Conor Coady has signed from the Wolverhampton Wanderers for a relatively cheap deal. This is not just some signing to try and please the fans. This is a signing that will rejuvenate the club in the Championship.

Coady is a 30-year-old English defender who has played for Wolves, Everton, and Sheffield United. The Liverpool academy graduate is exactly what this Leicester team lacked last season. He is a leader.

When the transfer got announced, I was immediately messaged by my friend who is a Wolverhampton fan. He talked to me about how Wolves lost leadership when he was sent out on loan to the Toffees. He stated, “Once he left wolves for Everton the leadership at wolves was passed elsewhere and Neves or Kilman just never had the same energy”.

Leadership went straight out the window when Kasper Schmeichel left the club. The squad didn’t have a leader lined up to replace him and it hurt us massively. When the East Midlands team went through a rough stretch of games, no one was there to lead the team and get them motivated. This is why bringing in a player like Coady is so massive. He has a great sense of humor and an even better ability to lead a team.

To follow that up, Coady has experience in the second tier of English football. Not only has he played for Sheffield United and Huddersfield, he started on the Wolves team that got promoted to the Premier League.

Not only does Coady fill the role of the needed leader, he is also a great player. He is a rock in the back that is going to pair up perfectly with Harry Souttar and Wout Faes. The Foxes faithful have an exciting summer to look forward to after this brilliant signing.
