Medical set for Thursday for fifth Leicester City signing

Leicester City are set to make their fifth signing on Thursday as a medical has been set. The player is Stephy Mavididi and here is what you need to know.

Multiple sources are reporting a medical has been set for Mavididi to join the Foxes either on Thursday or the day after. The72 specifically quote Santi Aouna regarding an agreement being in place for the player to link up with Enzo Maresca. Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has also given us the ‘here we go’.

Now, those reports would have us believe just over £6m has been agreed as a transfer fee, where a 10% sell-on clause has also been included in the deal. An interesting inclusion if true, after all we often see the reduction in value of our talent in recent years! Hopefully this would end up more similar to Wesley Fofana – a massive fee – over selling for less in four years time. This will make our fifth signing after Mads Hermansen.

Mavididi is a 25-year-old left-winger signed to replace the outgoing Harvey Barnes. Having been within the Arsenal and Juventus youth setups, the winger certainly comes through a couple strong academies, but never made it at those clubs.

Where the left wing-back comes into midfield, the left winger/midfielder has a versatile role reliant on personal ability, pace, and defensive capacity and ball recovery. Mavididi can track back, press high, make a tackle, and break up play. Conversely while on the attack, he can receive the ball, turn, and run past defenders. A perfect fit for that role. An extremely affordable, low-risk transfer for Leicester City. We should have the announcement either later today or sometime tomorrow.
