Leicester boss gives Souttar transfer update and Coady injury news
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has revealed details on centreback Harry Souttar amid transfer speculation. Meanwhile there is a negative injury update for new defender Conor Coady. Coady is already seen as a Foxes leader and was certainly a candidate to be the latest LCFC captain as the Championship gets underway and the Leicestershire side entertain Midlands rivals Coventry City.
First of all, Maresca has confirmed that the squad is too big and some Foxes will leave this summer. That is a fairly significant revelation to begin with as the former Manchester City coach took the Leicester hotseat for his first competitive pre-match press conference, as it were. Secondly, with respect to more potential signings, the Italian gave an equivocal response. However, I think I can read between the lines. Basically, the LCFC gaffer seemed to suggest that further incomings could transpire if other notable players departed the club. Have a look at the presser notes for yourself to see what I mean.
In the meantime, let’s take a look at Souttar’s situation. There has been talk that he could go, or that his standing with the east Midlands outfit was ambiguous or even under consideration. I actually presumed that the Australia international would be a great success at Leicester. Though sometimes it just doesn’t work out for whatever reason; I am unconvinced that Brendan Rodgers gave the athlete ample chances to convince. Souttar was impressive in the Championship with Stoke City and may be what’s required for the King Power team’s defence in 2023/24. Regarding a transfer for the 24-year-old, Maresca said ‘something can happen’. Yet Souttar has not requested a move.
Leicester City lose Conor Coady for indefinite period
Losing an athlete who was sure to motivate and lead by example may hurt the early campaign. Maresca offered information on the injured Coady:
"“Unfortunately Coady is not with us and probably won’t be with us for the next games. We don’t know. We are still waiting to see how he improves. They are still analysing the situation.”"
