Today is either one of your favorite days of the year or one of your most stressful. If you’re a Leicester City fan, it is likely going to be a stressful day. Transfer deadline day is here and the rumors are swirling around The Foxes like a tornado. So many players may leave the team and so many players are expected to come in. One of the players rumored to have interest from Leicester is striker Tom Cannon.

Cannon is a 20-year-old Irish striker who plays for Everton. He spent the last season on loan at Preston where he scored eight goals in 20 Championship appearances. Cannon has had a lot of success in Everton’s youth academy where he scored 51 goals in 97 appearances.

If the East Midlands team wants to make this signing, they’re going to have to fight off some competition. Middlesbrough has made an offer of £4 million while Southampton is also rumored to be interested in Cannon. All three of these teams may be in desperate need of a striker today. Middlesbrough is still trying to replace Cameron Archer, Southampton may be selling Che Adams, and Leicester has a lot of transfer rumors involving Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka.

I believe this is a signing Enzo Maresca and his staff should be making. However, I don’t think he should be our starting striker for the season. I believe one of Iheanacho or Daka should start over him. So if we were to sell one of those players, I think Cannon would be the perfect replacement.

The Irish striker has two great qualities you want in a striker in the second tier of English football. He is young and he has shown success in the Championship. That is a great combination to have. Maresca is currently building a great young core and Cannon would be a great addition. I believe he will be successful this season.

However, my worry is what happens when LCFC gets promoted. Is Cannon Premier League ready? That is a risk I’m not sure if I’m ready to see. If he were to be our second option behind Iheanacho or Daka, I think he would be perfect for the squad.
