Harry Souttar: 6

It was the Australian centre back’s first appearance this season and frankly he did as well as a centre back could have done in a 3-1 defeat. He defended in “one v ones” fairly well and looked assured on the ball. He made a very good case for him to be involved with the first team once again.

Conor Coady: 5

With his first competitive start of the season, it was always going to be a difficult ask for Coady to come in away at Anfield and have a big impact. He did have some crucial blocks throughout the tie, however he did allow Cody Gakpo to turn easily for Liverpool’s equaliser. On the ball he was fairly competent and he should grow more into the role as he comes back to full fitness. His natural leadership will be pivotal for the Foxes as the season progresses.

James Justin: 7

The standout amongst the away men both defensively and on the ball he was excellent. He did a brilliant job on dangerous Liverpool youngster Ben Doak keeping him quiet for the entirety of the fixture. While being progressive the ball when he had it and always trying to be positive. Now that Callum Doyle is out for the foreseeable future, Justin will hopefully make that left sided position his own.

Hamza Choudhury: 4

Choudhury is best when he has time on the ball and when used to stop counter attacks and breakdown play. When he is used and the main No.6 his technique breaks down too often. This was the case unfortunately here. It is simply not his most optimal role, his play isn’t cerebral enough to be the main connector between the lines. Not a great performance by his standards but partly because he was misused.

Yunus Akgun: 6

Akgun once more displayed why Maresca trusts him in the middle of the park. He is brilliant technically, can take the ball under pressure and his pressing angles are elite. His pass for the opening goal was also something that went under the radar as his weight of pass was exquisite. He did struggle in the second period to match Liverpool’s physicality but that was no different than the rest of the Leicester City side.
