Blackburn 1-4 Leicester: Foxes positives and negatives
According to the Italian head coach in recent post-match comments, the player could be absent for anywhere from 4-6 weeks depending upon how the recovery goes. This is due to a hamstring concern on the players end, and likely due to over-exertion from playing hard in the Liverpool trip and then featuring again. McAteer is only young, and perhaps his muscles are not yet durable enough for that sort of intense multi-match week schedule we currently have.
Anyway, it would seem Leicester City need to replace the Englishman with either Yunus Akgun – who has been excellent when working with the midfielders – or Abdul Fatawu. I would expect the Ghanaian to make the cut for most games, with Akgun possibly moving more infield with the creative ability we often lack with either our box-to-box Wilfred Ndidi or loanee Cesare Casadei.
Leicester at the top!
Nine games played, 18 goals scored, 24 points. Top of the Championship two points clear of Ipswich Town. Rovers was a strong test cementing Leicester’s place in the upper echelons of this season’s second division contest. All our originally expected opposition have been inconsistent, defensively weak, and unimaginative. Just look at Southampton and Leeds United: they do not even seem like they will get automatic qualification at the moment.
The Foxes are already eight points clear of fourth place, and four points clear of third place Preston North End. The lowest they can fall after two losses is third, and if Maresca can keep the wins coming, that gap will only widen. And let us say it how it is: Leicester have already faced their toughest opponents quality wise, now it is just a contest in consistency and freshness.
