Leicester’s September stats reviewed: attack part 1
By Arnav Bhatia
The xG and PSxG of the 11 goals scored in September paint a different story. The 11 goals were scored from shots which had an average xG of 0.50 and an average PSxG of 0.73. These numbers mark a huge improvement from the August figures and are indicative of well placed shots taken from good positions.
Other metrics
Another two metrics which were concerning were the average distance of shots taken from goal and Leicester’s non-penalty xG per shot (np-xGps). The Foxes were taking shots from relatively far out from goal (18.1 yards) and their average xG per shot (excluding the penalties) was the joint lowest in the league – 0.07. Leicester improved on both metrics – reducing their average distance of shots from goal down to 17.3 yards and recording the highest np-xGps in the league for September with 0.13.
To summarize, Leicester have been creating better chances for themselves and have also been taking better shots, a necessary and much needed improvement from August’s performances. The next part of the analysis will be more geared towards the midfield, studying patterns in passing and carries.
