Leicester 2-0 Stoke: all positives, no negatives
Finally, can the train stop?
It seems nigh impossible to imagine at this moment that the train could come of the tracks. One loss did nothing to dent the locomotive’s engine, and even a couple injuries have not derailed the carts. The Foxes keep progressing, keep winning, keep scoring.
After Stoke City, how many teams genuinely have a challenge against Leicester? We beat Preston North End, Southampton, Norwich City, and the only other three I can imagine a tougher challenge – like the Blackburn Rovers match – would be the inconsistent Leeds United, high-fliers Ipswich Town, and consistent Sunderland. The Foxes are yet to play these three.
Put it this way, Maresca has led us to beat teams from across the spectrum of good and ‘bad’ teams. The Championship is highly competitive at its summit, and yet, Leicester and Ipswich are 10 and eight points clear of Preston. They lead the pack which stretches from third to tenth. A single win separate those, three separate the top two from the rest. If the train can be stopped, it is Ipswich and Sunderland who stand the best chance.
