Leicester City 1-0 Sunderland: Foxes player ratings
By Arnav Bhatia
Leicester City recorded a hard fought 1-0 victory over an impressive Sunderland, who have proved to be one of Leicester’s toughest opponents of the season so far.
James Justin gave the Foxes an early lead with a wonderful header in the 12th minute from a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall corner. Both sides had chances in the first half but failed to convert, with Kelechi Iheanacho guilty of missing a wonderful chance set up by a cushioned Cesare Casadei header. There were appeals for a Sunderland penalty late in the first half with Wout Faes a bit lucky to get away with a rather rash sliding tackle.
Leicester started the second half brightly with Casadei being denied twice within minutes thanks to saves from a fired up Anthony Patterson. Sunderland grew in the game as the second half went on with Leicester struggling a bit to maintain momentum in their play. The Black Cats pressed strongly and threatened to score a few times but Leicester defended well and eventually saw out the game for a narrow victory.
This victory makes it eight consecutive Championship wins for Enzo Maresca’s men and makes it the best ever start to a Championship season after thirteen games. Here’s how we rated the players.
