QPR 1-2 Leicester: 3 Foxes talking points
The best team in the Championship
It goes without saying that Leicester City are top of the Championship, only being pushed for the title by surprise package Ipswich Town. Were it not for that miraculous club being at large, the relegated EPL team would be 14 points clear at the top of the table with little competition for their charge. Of course, there is significant competition with the recently promoted team.
Nevertheless, we know that although the Foxes lost several important players, they also gained nine impressive talents, including Premier League level players. The talent within the first team is Premier League level stuck in the Championship until they can maintain good form and get promoted, and the second team is probably an upper second tier side. The depth in quality is staggering at this division and a major challenge to existing records.
The King Power club are consistent, their manager imposing a classy and energetic style of possession-based football which is not afraid of long passages of play without a chance. It is a style of football adapted from the fantastic school of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta: the best brand of football the second division has ever seen.
If this form continues, the Leicester locomotive will break the record number of wins in a season, and possibly beat the points total record. If they continued with one loss every 14 games – which they will not, but we can dream – that would put their points total by the end around 129 and the number of wins around 43. Obviously this will not happen, they will finally draw and they will lose more fixtures, but the form is promising to smash some records.
