QPR 1-2 Leicester: 3 Foxes positives and negatives
Summer signing bonanza
Nine arrivals, and each and every one – well, bar two due to injuries – have contributed massively to the insurgent form that Leicester City have shown. Maresca’s recruitment team got the big calls correct and will not stop in January. Just look at the two goal-scorers.
A nigh-worldie and audacious attempt from former Arsenal and Juventus player Mavididi claimed the opener. His form has been electric: the second best for non-penalty expected goals plus expected assists (6.1), best for progressive carries (69), and our fifth highest goalscorer (3). Not one person can tell me this was not the perfect replacement for Harvey Barnes out there on the wing.
He is technically gifted, passionate, forward-looking, and most of all, clinical. Clinical shooting is not something attributed to the other finisher. Winks has been a midfield revelation. Where our Belgian ‘Starman’ Youri Tielemans slowed down and used his brain and technical excellence in passing to progress and retain the ball, Winksy will rush forward, he will run. Of course, the Englishman is not afraid of shooting, and got his first goal for the Foxes against QPR.
Once again, Winks has been unstoppable: the second highest progressive passes (87), the most minutes of any player, and makes the third longest passes with the highest completion of those passes. This midfielder gets the ball and will launch it however he likes. To think Tottenham Hotspurs fans did not like him that much as a player is so surprising from this form.
