QPR 1-2 Leicester: 3 Foxes positives and negatives
Well, if you want to get promotion at the first time of asking, the best solution is to keep building a buffer. The more points you have away from third place, the more losses you are afforded before your automatic promotion hopes are in contestation with other clubs. At this time, little stands against the Foxes and promotion. The title however has a much smaller buffer.
Five points separate Leicester who have played 14 matches from surprise package Ipswich Town on 13 matches player. Assuming the recently promoted side continue their raucous form, there are possibly only actually two points between them, although that does rely on no slip ups from either team throughout other fixtures.
Meanwhile, third place Leeds are on 25 points with the same number of games played as the Foxes on 39 points. That is five wins for Leeds and five losses for the King Power club before the former can overtake us in the promotion battle.
Although not an unsurmountable gap – the Foxes will start to lose a couple fixtures at least here or there – it is a large gap, and one which gives Maresca breathing space to work with. The more draws and losses that our opponents from third to eighth get instead of wins, the further that buffer has the potential to grow. QPR has helped us on that way, now beating the Elland Road giants and buoyant Portman Road side is much more important.
