Leicester City’s long winning streak came to end with a disappointing one nil defeat at home to promotion candidates Leeds United. Leicester were unable to muster good chances, recording just a single shot on target in the entire game. Leeds played with an intensity which the Foxes struggled to keep up with in the beginning of the game and coupled that with good defending in the final stages of the match.

While starlet Abdul Fatawu put on an electric display for the hosts, his teammates were subdued by the opposition defense and a 64th minute goal from Georginio Rutter proved enough to seal the three points for the visitors. Leicester City still remain at the top of the EFL Championship table with 12 wins from 14 games but have to show an improvement against teams who play aggressively and with intensity.

Leicester City player ratings

Mads Hermansen – 6

Looked shaky in the early stages of the game with a few risky passes but Leeds failed to capitalize on any of them. Made a few good saves in the second half.

Ricardo Pereira – 8

Made two brilliant tackles in the opening stages with Leicester struggling to keep the Leeds attackers at bay. Was superb defensively and was good with his distribution too.

Wout Faes – 5

Was not really at his best. Made a very sloppy pass and was not very successful with his tackling. There was the occasional long ball to the wing but that’s about it.

Jannik Vestergaard – 6

Was not as influential in possession as he’s accustomed to but defended fairly well.

James Justin – 6.5

Was sharp in defense but there were too many aimless long balls from him. There was a terrible free kick from him in the dying stages of the game when Leicester were desperately searching for an equalizer.

Harry Winks – 8

Was very smart with his maneuvers to escape his markers. Drove the ball forward well multiple times.

Cesare Casadei – 5

Was always there to support Fatawu but failed to do much with the ball. Was not aggressive enough in the midfield and didn’t capitalize on a loose ball in the Leeds box.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 6

Ran hard but wasn’t as influential as he usually is. Almost got a last minute equalizer in the dying minutes of the game but was denied by a fantastic save by Illan Meslier

Abdul Fatawu – 9

What a gem this young man is. The Leeds fullback Sam Byram struggled against the inspired winger, getting beaten numerous times and earning himself a booking in the process. The Ghanaian almost scored a wonder-goal but was unfortunately denied by the crossbar.

Jamie Vardy – 5

Uncharacteristically, he didn’t make a run which could have resulted in a tap-in from a superb Mavididi cross. Was decent with his one touch layoffs but didn’t impact the game at all.

Stephy Mavididi – 7

Dribbled well into the opposition area and caused problems for the defenders. Didn’t see much of him in the second half though.

Substitutes

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6

Came on for Vardy right after Leeds scored and distributed the ball well. Was positioned a bit too deep with the Foxes needing a No.9 to target.

Next. Leicester City 0-1 Leeds: 3 Foxes who let the side down. dark

Hamza Choudhury – 7

Played with aggression which lifted the team’s performance. Made a fantastic crunching tackle against Crysencio Summerville.
