The best winger of modern Leicester City history

After much avoiding and delaying, we have to come to my best winger of modern Leicester City history and I’m positive everyone has the same answer. One of a handful of players I’d welcome back after all the dross we’ve signed and let go in the past; the Algerian ‘Messi’, Riyad Mahrez. Arguably the most influential player to ever pull on the Royal Blue of this proud club.

What a player he was, at a time when I was just getting into football. I didn’t even know what I was watching really and it’s only been recently over the last two or three years I’ve been able to go back and watch his highlights to truly appreciate what he was doing. His close control, his ability to bring a ball under his control no matter what way it was passed to him, the fox like agility (sneaky, I know). Let’s not forget his absolutely incredible shot and situational awareness.

Combined with Jamie Vardy, in 2015/16 Riyad Mahrez terrorized Premier League defenses. No one knew what to do against them. Mahrez was so good that Pep Guardiola came in for him and made him a crucial part of his rebuild to storm the league. Ever since the Algerian left the winger position has seemed to have a massive void in it we can’t seem to fill. That is until recently with the signing on loan of Abdul Fatawu who I believe can grow into a truly scary winger for defenders to behold.

Again, I admit my sample size is small considering when I started following the team, I guess the title should have been very modern history but alas, it’s the holidays! Do you have any suggestions as to who I should change? Any debate as to Mahrez at number one? Find me on X to discuss and I’ll see you again on Sunday for my weekly piece! And of course after the Foxes’ action this weekend. C’MON THE BOYS!
