5 Ideal Leicester transfers ahead of EFL Championship return

Leicester City were – for their second Premier League season in a row – poor defensively, and creatively, and lacked any real guile to hit hard at their opponents. As such, their relegation is unsurprising. Here are five transfers which could change that.

5 Ideal Transfers

Upfront, Leicester City need to acquire a first-team prolific, explosive, and team-playing striker that offers the team the goals and pressing from the front required to perform well in the EFL Championship as well as progress in the Premier League should we return quickly. There are options out there for those out of contract with EPL clubs as well as those younger talents in fellow Championship and other foreign clubs.

Out of contract, the best player would seem to be Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Callum Wilson is also available. Either one would offer a player who has played in more defensive and occasionally aggressive sides, and we know they can score goals under pressure. Norwich City have Josh Sargent. The American scored the fourth-highest number of goals in the division with significantly fewer shots on target than those around him in the rankings.

However, I think Emanuel Emegha from RC Strasbourg would offer Leicester a long-term and truly impressive forward that hits all the boxes. His team loves switching from a deep defence to a stretching explosive counter-attack in seconds. This is how the Foxes should be playing going forward if they want to limit their defensive vulnerability while making use of their strong forward options. He would be the main transfer outlay and truly a challenge to sign.

Right-backs will be important. We need to replace Pereira and Justin. Kyle Walker-Peters and Tariq Lamptey are both out of contract. I would expect Lamptey to either sign a new deal or move on to a club like Brentford, but he would bring much-needed progressive threat on our right. ‘KWP’ is perhaps the most realistic for someone to play behind Coulibaly, but in the past has been seen as one of the only bright spots in that Southampton team. Plus, we already seem to like signing Southampton players.
