Another high profile Leicester City player will likely soon be confirmed as leaving King Power Stadium. Once again, certain members of the Blue Army won't be unhappy - some may even rejoice. This particular soon-to-be ex-Fox generally represents the exact signing, definitely the era, when the East Midlanders lost their way.

The single transfer of summer 2022, right at the end of the window, the defender was the red flag that a few of City's fans noted. By now, people have probably guessed precisely who is being referenced here, that's right: Belgian centre back Wout Faes.

Wout Faes' Leicester City time coming to an end

Apart from Enzo Maresca's precise and almost robotic season, Faes was pretty awful in a blue shirt, if not merely uneven form-wise. His arrival signaled a departure from the recruitment gold standard that once defined the LE2 club: replaced instead by a chaotic desperation that culminated in the heartbreak of relegation.

For a while now, the notably-haired defender has been on loan to AS Monaco; neither side on the divide expect to be permanently reunited. While he has managed to steady his own ship in Ligue 1, his tenure in the East Midlands will be remembered more for erratic decision-making than for defensive solidity.

As a matter of fact, the French team are understood to be making progress in talks to acquire the 28-year-old using an option to buy. Recent reports from Nice-Matin suggest that the Monegasque hierarchy is satisfied enough to trigger the clause, permanently severing a link that many in Leicester feel was broken to begin with.

For the Foxes faithful, Faes' departure represents the excision of a painful chapter. Consequently allowing the club to finally begin moving past the remnants of that ill-fated 2022 window.
