Enzo Maresca is still being liked with Leicester manager job

In spite of an existing and happy connection with Leicester City (in spite of leaving at the first call), this is really an explanation of why Enzo Maresca is incredibly unlikely to be named as new Foxes boss again. The Blue Army would surely like nothing more than that eventuality to transpire. The scenario would be right up there, but beneath the hypothetical (and far more likely) homecoming of the iconic Jamie Vardy.

Though the Italian who sent the East Midlanders back to the big time but didn't bother staying around for their Premier League experience won't return. If fans recall, he didn't want City at the apex of football, so why would he accept third-tier standard?

Following a calamitous fall from grace that has left the LE2 club languishing in the doldrums of the English pyramid, the King Power ownership wouldn't be able to afford Maresca now, nor could they justify the outlay. The former Manchester City coach is also being touted as a potential successor to the great Pep Guardiola with the Citizens, suggesting the phrase 'bigger fish to fry' is applicable.

Recent realistic Leicester City link

Only recently, City were connected with eyeing up Dick Schreuder. The Dutchman, currently excelling at NEC Nijmegen, could be an astute, if not ideal, appointment for an organisation in literal turmoil.

The partially halcyon days of the one-time Leicester gaffer are fanciful; a memory of evolutionary tiki-taka dominance that feels a lifetime ago. Though Maresca remains at an apparent 14/1 odds to take over again.

Such speculation is likely more a product of nostalgic hedging by bookmakers as opposed to tactical reality. For a club facing the relatively grim realities of League One, the return of their former architect is a dream deferred by the harsh economics of a fractured institution.
