Wingers and attacking midfielders are abundant at King Power Stadium, so Foxes fans may have expected, and certainly wished for, other requirements to be filled first. Another striker, as well as multiple centre backs, are clearly required to strengthen the squad ahead of a demanding League One campaign.

Yet City may have pulled off another potential coup by temporarily adding Brighton & Hove Albion's Harry Howell; in spite of his profile matching the already saturated attacking section. The 18-year-old arrives on a season-long loan carrying a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from the Seagulls' impressive academy system.

Things to know about latest Leicester City loanee Harry Howell

Born in Worthing, West Sussex, Howell began his journey with Brighton's academy at age seven, progressing through every age group and making his Under-18 debut at 14 in a 2–1 win over Leicester City's youth side. An omen?

Howell debuted in Premier League 2 at 15 in January 2024; in December 2024 he exploded in the scene with a hat-trick and an assist against Tottenham Hotspur, earning the division's Player of the Month award. A senior Premier League debut arrived at Amex Stadium against Liverpool in May 2025; when at 17 years and 29 days he became Brighton’s youngest-ever player in the competition.

The five foot ten player's first EPL start followed against Crystal Palace in February 2026, making him the East Sussex team's youngest-ever starter in the top flight. Internationally, he has represented England from Under-16 through to U19 level, scoring for the U17s against Czechia at the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, and making his U19 debut in March 2026.

A left-footed creative playmaker, Howell operates comfortably as a number 10 or right winger. He uses exceptional vision and close control to slide key passes through defensive lines. His style draws comparisons to elite technicians such as David Silva and Santi Cazorla, relying on quick short passing, sharp first touches and intelligent movement to drift into narrow pockets of space and create scoring opportunities for himself and teammates.

"I’m a right winger or a no.10. I like to score goals and assist and take players on. I try to be as exciting as I can for the fans.
“I’ve spoken to the manager about what position I’m going to play, and what I can expect from him and what I need [to do] to get in his team."

A Leicester debut, as a 77th-minute substitute for Will Alves in the opening-day 1–1 draw at Notts County on 15 August 2026, has already occurred. The wideman will now compete for regular minutes in a crowded attacking group.

Russell Martin is known for favouring possession-based, attacking football so the new man's technical skill set appears perfectly suited to that philosophy, while offering the manager added flexibility across the front line. The latter faces stiff competition from the likes of Conor Chaplin, Will Alves, Tommy Watson and Wes Burns for a starting berth, but his ability to unlock defences with a single through ball could make him a pivotal creative force as City chase an immediate return to the Championship.
