In an early Monday morning post, Henry Winter shared his initial thoughts following Leicester's latest loss. It is the first official week of the club, knowing that they will be playing in the Championship next season, and the long-time writer discussed some of what he views as necessary for City in a post on X.

One of his points of emphasis was the need for LCFC to keep Luke Thomas. Coming off a strong performance against Liverpool and lining up across from Mo Salah, the left-back had a tremendous showing in his play in front of the King Power supporters.

For a defensive unit that has often looked out of sorts and disorganized, the Foxes proved equal to the challenge against the Reds. Thomas is particular. Throughout the 90 minutes, the City academy graduate intervened at the right time to prevent a shot from going on target. Outside of those critical moments, he also positioned himself well and intercepted passes or headed the ball away from the lurking runs, usually from Salah, before they could turn into dangerous moments.

This is currently a Liverpool team that hasn't looked as good as it has in prior months, but they still have quality. Being able to deal with their countless attacks for all but one instance is something of an accomplishment.

Now, LCFC is going to be stuck with decisions to make in regard to personnel. Winter brought up the important PSR aspect. In general, anyway, with or without those Premier League rules, the club should be turning toward the players that have been brought up through their system anyway.

Why it matters that Leicester keep him

These are about to be difficult times at City. Holding onto and showing the next up-and-comers that there is a path to the first team to play against the competition in England's second tier and fight for a chance to earn promotion again is what's needed at the grounds.

A lot has gone wrong at Leicester. Not keeping Thomas and handing the reins over to those who have played for the younger Foxes sides will only do everyone a further disservice. The LB is a willing defender with a high work rate. Someone like him should be the epitome of what's currently possible at the club. He needs to be retained, and that needs to be something of a priority.
