A lot of fans groan when seeing an international break on the calendar. For Leicester, however, not playing is a much-needed, welcomed sight. Any time, like against Chelsea or Manchester United during the FA Cup, there is even a slight moment of a positive sign, the Foxes find a way to take five or six steps back.
It has been over a month since a goal was scored. Bobby Decordova-Reid managed to put LCFC against ManU on that given day. Since then, chances, let alone attempts on target, have been impossible to come by. The last win, furthermore, hasn't occurred since late January against a poor Tottenham side.
With the negatives far outweighing the ever-so-smallest glimpses of anything suggesting otherwise, even the most hopeful City fans are acknowledging the reality of relegation. Considering it will have been over two weeks since the last fixture when Ruud van Nistelrooy's men take on Manchester City, the time away from the East Midlands couldn't have come at a better time.
This isn't to suggest that this Championship-bound team will now dominate possession and put Ederson or Stefan Ortega under duress. It is, however, a matter of fact that it couldn't have gotten too much worse on the pitch for RvN.
Notable good performance by Leicester player
Occasionally, players will see a bump in form after representing their national team sides. For as much criticism as Jan Vestergaard has received, for example, the defender had an excellent display for Denmark against Portugal. This performance even warranted a Nations League Team of the Week nod.
Whether something like that carries over or not, being away from Seagrave is serving everyone well at the moment. This is akin to repeatedly smashing your head against the wall, hoping for the pain to stop. Everyone in the building needed a hard reset. Staying up and recreating the 'Great Escape' isn't a realistic expectation at this point. Not being part of the routine cycle of showing up and putting on horrific showings, though, was needed. Even if this group can't figure it out and only more frustration comes following the international fixtures, the Leicester fanbase needed a break.
