Leicester City academy graduate announces retirement aged 31

Leicester City academy graduate George Taft has announced his retirement from professional football, aged 31 years old.
The Leicester City academy has produced a few great players. Some of them were successes at Leicester City and others found their feet elsewhere.
One of those players who found their feet elsewhere is George Taft. The 31-year-old played in the Leicester City academy, then signed a professional contract in 2011. He was eligible for the Leicester first-team between 2011-2014 but didn't make a league appearance.
In 2014 after a series of loan moves, Taft was sold permanently to Burton Albion. It was at Burton where Taft really kicked on as a player, becoming a mainstay in the lineup and setting himself up nicely for his career ahead. At Burton, Taft won League Two.

Now, aged 31 years old, George Taft has announced his retirement from professional football. He has put an end to his 15 year career and thanked his family for supporting his dream.
In his own words, Taft said: “Sometimes your body can be telling you what you need. After 15 incredible years on the field, I’m stepping away from football. I’m forever grateful for the chance to live my dream. Now, it’s time to repay my family and girls for travelling up and down the country every weekend to watch me play, i’ve made friends for life in this game and memories to last a life time.”
As a local Leicester lad, George Taft can now put his feet up and enjoy his retirement. He is still young, so what lies ahead for him remains to be decided.
The centre-back most recently signed for Mickleover. Throughout his career, he has also enjoyed spells at Cambridge United, Scunthorpe United and Bolton Wanderers.
We wish Taft the very best in his retirement. Once a Fox, always a Fox.
