A debut breakout season was always on the cards for several of the Foxes' young stars, but not many would have predicted Jayden Joseph to be chief among them. Sammy Braybrooke and Will Alves were expected to finally get their chance at the East Midlands side, and they did, but Joseph has been far more enlightening and impactful.
Every single fixture with the English right-back playing has seen him heavily involved. Defensively, he is impassioned; offensively, Joseph runs and links up play a lot, and in attack his creativity and positioning introduce options for chances we otherwise would not have with someone like Hamza Choudhury in that spot. Our new starter appears leagues above anything the former Leicester player exhibited in that position.
What Leicester City's Joseph deal means
Finally, the King Power Club has begun to realise something vital: they must rely on their academy. Leicester will never have the financial clout of Manchester City, the attraction of Liverpool, or the gargantuan squad of Chelsea. We used to rely on selling our assets, but neglected our young stars, leading many to depart early with little reward for the Foxes. Now, more than ever, we must focus on the youth.
Under Russell Martin, Leicester City will promote youth stars, will give them their chances, and will offer them contracts to stay. This is just the start, with a need to tie down Alves, Braybrooke, Page, and others at the King Power with the promise of regular football and promotion to the EFL Championship.
Jayden Joseph is a prime example of trusting youth and reaping the rewards. The passion and energy he has shown deserved a new contract, and with more youthful Foxes sent on loan (such as Jake Evans and Kirsten Otchere), we see a path to improving Leicester and retaining our academy stars. Trust them to deliver that spark of creativity and passion that our team has lacked when it became nothing more than big money for big names who did not care.
When Stevie Bausor, Logan Briggs, Kevon Gray, Otchere, and Evans are given their chance, they will deliver results and drive the King Power side with intensity. Otherwise, we can always build up, only to return to a crushing fall when the next set of big names takes hundreds of thousands from our club.
As a star performer in our recent matches, Jayden Joseph's new deal is not a surprise. The 14 signings of this transfer window will mean nothing compared to the impact of talented, passionate stars like Joseph, who take the step up and fight to claim their starting spot. The new four-year contract is a statement of intent to trust the academy.
