Foxes title-winner Christian Fuchs is supposedly looking to pull some Leicester City strings in order to get what he wants from the powers-that-be on Filbert Way. But will the former Austria captain be able to pull off a coup and get the result he wants without scratching a few Foxes backs? I hope you got my Blackadder Goes Forth reference there, if not, I'll be very disappointed.
In all seriousness, a couple of potentially significant Leicester loans are likely to be extended following the retired left back, who now manages Newport County, using his presumably considerable influence at King Power Stadium to secure a pair of assets' longevity. Intriguingly, one of the players the 39-year-old wishes to have for a longer period could eventually and realistically break through in LE2. Allow me to detail the news on Fuchs, and explain where necessary as usual.
Existing Leicester City loans may last longer because a Foxes legend is said to be exercising influence over the club
Fuchs has just joined Newport; people certainly can't blame him for attempting to ensure that he has highly regarded prospects for the top flight with him for an expanded spell. That is what any good manager would do.
The ex-Foxes star most recently worked in the United States' Major League Soccer division (commonly known as the MLS league). Fuchs was assistant coach for Charlotte FC uncer Christian Lattanzio. Subsequently former Leicester head coach Dean Smith arrived.
Although the Austrian is now in Wales making his bones with the Exiles, as they say. And Fuchs has 'contacted' City with a view to extending both Sammy Braybrooke and Nathan Opoku's current temporary stays on the River Usk for the second half of the season.
"I spoke to Leicester about Sammy and Nathan already,” new Newport boss Fuchs told the South Wales Argus. “I will do everything to keep them on board with us to the end of the season. I think they are crucial in our play. Sammy especially has done really well and it will be really important to keep those two on board."
Braybrooke, a midfielder, is forecast to become a somebody so to speak. He only recently completed a herculean task and was recognised by experts:
"A central midfielder on loan from Leicester City, Sammy Braybrooke, won possession back 14 times for Newport; 14 times he won possession back and the next closest Newport team-mate won it three times"Adrian Clarke, Inside Futbol
