Leicester City have only made one fairly inconsequential signing so far during the offseason. And the answer to the question on the Blue Army's collective minds is, yes, we need a few more in order to secure promotion back to the Premier League. Though the East Midlands team have now supposedly targeted an experience player who could be ideal at King Power Stadium. City are said to have made a contract offer to an ex-top flight stalwart with a transfer reportedly near. Who is this mystery LCFC target? Is he a reasonable and realistic prospect for the financially strapped Foxes? And what is our verdict on him?

What the Foxes require

You can argue that we don't need any further recruits for the central midfield department. However, Oliver Skipp is the only senior member of that collective who is fully expected to remain a Fox for the season.

That means anybody (or more than one) of Boubakary Soumare, Wilfred Ndidi or Harry Winks could exit Filbert Way this summer. Meaning a space or two could open up. And the latest so-called news would back that eventuality.

Leicester City reportedly offer contract to ex-Premier League midfielder Josh Brownhill with transfer ostensibly close

Leicester are apparently on the verge of completing what has been described as a "massive deal" for one-time Burnley standout Brownhill. Is he an upgrade on any of the previously mentioned Foxes with respectively uncertain futures? Not upon first inspection.

Though Brownhill does offer something more unique than the existing three LCFC stars who could leave: drive. The 29-year-old never stops, something like a prime Ndidi. The former can produce a goal or two, having netted 18 overall in the Prem.

Clearly that feat is something the Nigerian, Winks and Soumare all struggle to do regularly. But Brownhill's salary would likely be lower. So how close are City to netting him really?

"West Ham United, Celtic and Ipswich Town have all been credited with an interest in the midfielder, but it was the Foxes who made the first move with a substantial contract proposal, as per FourFourTwo."

Evidently this this CM won't be free agent for long. A transfer is near; City could do a lot worse.
