This outlet might have misinterpreted Gary Rowett's approach somewhat, as the pragmatism displayed at King Power Stadium versus Bristol City was far from a surrender of ambition. Under the former Foxes player's tutelage, Leicester City have become palpably more industrious. A return to the foundational basics of defensive shape and collective toil was evidently required to arrest the previous slide. Securing a clean sheet alongside a 2-0 result provides a solid foundation upon which this rejuvenated squad can build, offering a much-needed reprieve for their weary LE2 support.

What happened on the night

However, a shadow of 'what if' lingers over the victory. The Blue Army will surely dread to think what would have transpired had Bristol City converted the penalty following Ben Nelson's clumsy concession. In that sliding-doors moment, the momentum of the Rowett revolution might have fractured.

Instead, the miss acted as a catalyst for a more resolute display. Remarkably, even the stars who typically serve as lightning rods for criticism found a rhythm against the Robins.

Jordan Ayew and Luke Thomas in particular exuded respective newfound composure that silenced doubters, for now. While Oliver Skipp has now totally won over supporters through displays of relentless tenacity and productivity.

It was a night where the outcasts emerged as protagonists, proving that in the crucible of a relegation scrap, industry and quality often trump the aesthetic flourishes of the past. Anyway, beneath are FoL's scores.

Leicester City player ratings

Jakub Stolarczyk 7: Could have been six but for the spot-kick stop.

Luke Thomas 8: Attacking (especially crossing) coming on; is now concentrated and tougher defensively.

Caleb Okoli 6: Fairly solid but wild in possession.

"Caleb Okoli: There was one excellent switched pass early on, but that wasn’t a theme for the match, with the aimless passes still present. But defensively, he couldn’t faulted. His positioning was good. 7"

Ben Nelson 7: Could have been 9; he is the real deal, however. Shame about the pen.

Hamza Choudhury 6: Tackling never a problem but too nonchalant on ball. Don't rate him in defence. Surely Ricardo can handle a game or two a week?!

Oliver Skipp 8: Man of the Match and fully enjoying his own renaissance. A big change from previous state. A 9 rating would require more forward-thinking passing.

Jordan James 7: Expect much, much more to come from the Welshman! A satisfactory return to the starting lineup.

Stephy Mavididi 7: Maybe a 6 is more suitable. Yet I value his directness and was unlucky not to score.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid 7: Often misunderstood and underrated: held ball well and slowed game intentionally on Rowett's orders. A threat.

Abdul Fatawu 7.5: Should've been a 9. Although he is slightly one-dimensional at times when teammates are available. Very good nonetheless.

Jordan Ayew 7: Shouldn't be involved really, though did a solid job with back to goal. A regular goalscorer, he ain't!
