Leicester‘s big win at Watford that could inspire Rowett

Leicester City has found life in the Championship this season to be deeply uncomfortable.

In the past, the Foxes have viewed the second tier as nothing more than a temporary home, before going on to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Now, however, the EFL's elite league is anything but a sanctuary for Gary Rowett and Co. as they are only kept off the foot of the division by the basket case example of Sheffield Wednesday.

There have been some glimmers of hope to hang onto since Rowett took on the reins, who has a managerial reputation for being a safe operator, with one defeat from his opening five games in charge suggesting there was life in the survival mission, just yet.

Yet, for all the minor positives, the East Midlands titans are still two points behind West Bromwich Albion, who are loitering just outside the relegation positions in 21st.

To put it bluntly, more wins must be forthcoming instead of settling for battling draws under the new regime.

Rowett will need to pull off some memorable away wins to ensure survival is a possibility, despite the fact the relegation candidates haven't won a contest on the road since the start of December, when upsetting near neighbours Derby County 3-1 at Pride Park.

Thankfully, in the build-up to their clash with Watford, it appears that the Foxes have viewed Vicarage Road as a happy hunting ground in recent years, with one blistering win back in 2022 sticking out fondly.

Leicester's unbelievable away trip to Watford

Leicester simply can't keep serving up pitiful performances, away from the King Power, if they're to mount a late charge out of the dreaded bottom three.

They'll, of course, be all too aware of their collapse in the playoffs at Vicarage Road in 2013, when Troy Deeney slammed home that famous winner, after Anthony Knockaert floundered from the penalty spot.

Yet, those demons look to have been exorcised now, with Rowett and Co. last losing on their travels to the Hornets back in 2019.

Since then, a 2-1 victory has been achieved during Enzo Maresca's title-winning heroics, and an unbelievable 5-1 triumph also came their way at the close of the 2021/22 season, to resign the hosts to the drop in the Premier League.

Looking back on the Foxes starting XI that took to the field that day must make Leicester fans despondent with nostalgia, considering the mess the former Premier League winners are now in, with Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, and Harvey Barnes sharing out the goal load to relegate Roy Hodgson's sorry Hornets.

It's very unlikely that a similar result will be pulled off on the weekend, considering Leicester's current wretched run on the road, but they must go into this clash with a nothing-to-lose attitude and hope to upset the apple cart.

The season is very nearly over, so there must be no regrets on the end of Rowett's men, as they hopefully break their away day hoodoo at a ground that has doting, yet rather bonkers memories attached to it.
