Leicester City have been very slow out of the blocks when it comes to summer transfer signings.

Indeed, at the time of writing, despite rumours continuing to swirl that Conor Chaplin will join, the Foxes are yet to seal a single incoming signing.

The Midlands giants took their sweet time with appointing Russell Martin, so the same patience could have to be extended to their transfer activity.

The worry will be that they're falling behind some of their promotion rivals, even with the transfer window in its infancy, as Sheffield Wednesday - who were relegated alongside Leicester from the Championship - have already welcomed in five summer transfers, and they're not wrapped up just yet.

Sheffield Wednesday's quick transfer business

On the day of writing, Wednesday has added in their fifth summer splurge in the form of Harry Gray on loan from Leeds United, as the young striker tries to become a fan favourite in South Yorkshire.

Alongside Gray joining on loan, the Owls have also picked up Callum Slattery, Ricardo Santos, Jiordi Longola, and Sil Swinkels on free transfers, as the Hillsborough giants pick up the pieces from last season's disastrous relegation to try and transform their team into promotion contenders.

All of this early business has certainly caught the eye among lower league neutrals, but while many watch in amazement at how quick Henrik Pedersen and Co. are accelerating their deals, Leicester will be watching with some anxiety, as they will worry their team has already fallen behind, with Wednesday a clear promotion rival.

It's a marathon, not a sprint at the end of the day, but business must be conducted soon on Leicester's end, as Martin currently has a real lack of strikers at his disposal.

While transfer news coming out of the King Power is quiet, with the likelihood that Leicester snap up Crystal Palace starlet Justin Devenny slim, Wednesday is back in the headlines again, as they look to secure yet another eye-catching buy.

Another eye-catching signing is in the works

As per journalist Sam Byrne, the ambitious South Yorkshire giants could soon welcome Louie Barry to their ranks, with the one-time Stockport County attacker set to leave Aston Villa behind, to relocate permanently to Hillsborough.

While the 23-year-old has never been able to make the cut in the first team at Villa Park, he is a lower league aficionado, especially when it comes to wreaking havoc in League One.

Indeed, he has an electric 19 goals from a previous 59 appearances at the demanding level, with Stockport fans in love with his high-octane displays when he called Edgeley Park home.

Ideally, Leicester should have tried their luck with Barry, with it very likely that Abdul Fatawu will be off this summer, as the one-time England U18 international is a tricky, hard-to-contain presence down the flanks, much like the Ghanaian.

Instead, however, Wednesday have won their desired target, again, and the 23-year-old will be determined to be a success with the Owls, as he never quite managed to win promotion at the Hatters.

Always keen to pull off an audacious strike, with a further 17 career goals under his belt in League Two, this is undoubtedly a statement signing, with his ex-Stockport boss Dave Challinor referring to him as a "killer" in front of goal earlier this year.

Leicester would have benefited immensely from having such a League One-ready hotshot in their ranks as the signings must come soon for Martin and Co, with the new season looming on the horizon next month.
