When I was growing up, few strikers could smash the ball into the back of the net like Yakubu Aiyegbeni. At the time, the former Nigeria international was banging them in for Leeds United in the Premier League. If you can remember back to the 1990s like me. Funnily enough, that Yakubu ended up playing with many, many clubs - even Leicester City Football Club. He was something of a high calibre journeymen, no less.

'The Yak', as he was affectionately known by some fan bases, netted 11 goals in just 20 appearances for the Foxes while on loan at King Power Stadium. A quite stunning figure from a natural-born goalscorer. But another Nigerian baller with the same surname could now be heading for the East Midlands, if a transfer rumour which emanates from the player in question's home country is accurate. Is he a striker, or does he play in a separate position? And what does speculation exist of?

OK, we haven't had as much hearsay to assess before the upcoming winter transfer window as in other years. So I am keen to learn what Yakubu the younger (though the two are not related, according to my research) is all about.

Adam Yakubu is not a centre forward; he is more of an anchoring midfield man. He is 20 years old, and currently competing for Slovakian side Trencin.

I would imagine that the 2005-born player's apparent £200k price tag is a significant element in the King Power outfit's supposed interest. Although that doesn't mean Yakubu is not a quality operator at all.

However, 'several European teams' are said to be monitoring Yakubu. This was due to him reportedly being 'one of the most exciting teenagers in the Nigeria Premier Football League':

"His form has sparked concrete interest across Europe, with Belgian Jupiler Pro League side KAA Gent and Championship clubs Leicester City and Watford exploring the possibility of securing his signature ahead of the winter window."
