One of our former writers, Josh Holland, who now writes for Leicester Mercury, was at the Leicester City friendly today at the world-renowned Seagrave training complex. The journalist was there reviewing the practice game against Peterborough United to kick off the preseason schedule. He also appraised each individual Fox on display.
And LCFC actually showcased 22 of their squad, with two XIs deployed in the first and second halves. The lineups selected by Andy King were interesting to say the least. If we designate the first half team as the main starters, then plenty of overpriced, overpaid and overly influential players like Conor Coady and Victor Kristiansen were dropped.
However, I think balance was the name of the game over status in the non-competitive clash with the Posh, as Peterborough are comically known. A hearty blend of knowing experience with the gusto and energy of youth was prevalent on both sides of the break. King seems to know what he's doing, if you value my input. The roster have certainly been put through their paces fitness-wise from what Foxes of Leicester see and hear.
But which Foxes stars and starlets stood out on the day? Let's see what LCFC Live thought of the maiden outing of 2025/26.
The most exciting player who got people off of their seats in Leicester City's friendly match versus Peterborough United has been named - and it wasn't Stephy Mavididi, Jeremy Monga or two-goal hero Louis Page
Silko Thomas scored the third City goal after Page had bagged his brace on the day. The latter in particular, only aged 16, clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
Mavididi and Monga were also outstanding at times with regard to dribbling and creating. Yet one other Fox was, in Holland's words, "Quick and direct, the one player who got bums off seats". And that was winger Wanya Marcal:
"Wanya Marcal: Wanted to get on the ball down the right and saw more of the ball than any other Leicester play. Quick and direct, the one player who got bums off seats. Could have got the ball into the box earlier at times but he got himself into the position more than others."Josh Holland, LCFC Live
